Seattle, WA - Newton Security Inc., the leader in the development of stereo machine-vision, single person detection systems, today announced that the Canadian Intellectual Property Office has approved the issuance of patent number 2,481,250 for tailgating and reverse entry detection, alarm, recording and prevention, or T-DAR, for short. This Canadian patent for advanced, access control technology is the second to be granted to Newton, the first being an earlier US patent, and precedes other worldwide patent applications in the works.
Tailgating is the act of an unauthorized person slipping through a door behind an authorized person who is unaware of their presence. Piggybacking occurs when an authorized person holds a protected door open for another person that he or she knows or perceives to have authorized access. Both acts completely defeat an access control system’s ability to prevent unauthorized entry.
The Newton T-DAR technology has already been approved and specified by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority and is installed at six major airports: Victoria International Airport, Edmonton International Airport, the James Armstrong Richardson International Airport in Winnipeg, London International Airport in Ontario, Kelowna International Airport in B.C. and the Quebec International Airport. Additional installations are in the planning stage.
Security for passengers and employees at these airports is improved because T-DAR constantly monitors specific critical entry points and actively deters tailgating and piggybacking, as well as alerting security officials to attempted violations. T-DAR technology combines stereo vision and sophisticated software to specifically and reliably discern between human and non-human objects, such as carts, parcels and luggage, then tags and tracks individuals within the scanning zone.
In addition to airports, Newton T-DAR systems are deployed around the world to control and track access to restricted areas in many different venues such as government buildings, data centers , research laboratories, financial institutions, power stations, manufacturing plants, unmanned immigration sites and virtually every other category of secure areas.
Seattle-based Newton Security Inc. is a privately held provider of high technology solutions to address today's security needs. The company develops and markets high-performance computer-driven answers to difficult security problems. Newton Security products are designed to allow the quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness of computer technology to replace the human element in security applications where the tedious nature of the job, and the high cost of personnel, makes it difficult to maintain the necessary effectiveness of today's security requirements. The Newton Security T-DAR system has been granted US Patent Number 7,382,895.
